Dublin Opinion is a group blog. The contributors are people who don’t normally blog but who feel from time to time that the world wide web needs their thoughts and opinions.
The name Dublin Opinion comes from a satirical magazine of the same name. The Dublin Opinion considered itself to be the Humourous Journal of Ireland and ran continuously from 1923 to 1968. It was highly successful in its day and its political cartoons are peppered through Irish history books dealing with the 20th Century.
Frank Kelly, an Irish comic actor who cut his teeth on the Irish satirical TV show Halls Pictorial Weekly and who more recently became more widely known as Fr. Jack Hackett in the TV Sitcom Fr. Ted writes here about the magazine, which was co-founded by his father.
Excuse, and what you think concerning forthcoming elections?
Sasha’s comment is a little off-topic, no?

My father used to get the Dublin Opinion in the 50s when I was growing up, when did it stop?

Hi, I am a student and I am thinking of doing my dissertation on Dublin Opinion. I am leaving this post to see if anyone could direct me towards some good literature on this iconic journal,
Many Thanks,
John.
John, Good on ye. I googled Dublin Opinion and this website came up. My granduncle was a cartoonist for Dublin Opinion for its entire duration and I am trying to buy some editions for a collection if there are any out there.
I do not know of any good literature on the journal but a good person to talk to may be Frank Kelly (of Fr. Jack in Father Ted fame). He was involved in the magazine and his father helped set it up way back in the 20’s.
Thanks Barry, ive been into trinity and veiwed the copys that they have there. They also have the collection in The irish National Library, which I think anyone can request to see them. Was your uncle Thomas Collins Barry?
Thanks for your Post,
John.
